Clean Granite Countertops in Four Easy Steps

Since the early 2000s, granite kitchen countertops have remained in trend. This natural stone is stunning, germ-plus stain-resistant, and has a glossy luster. Moreover, this material requires a particular cleaning procedure to prevent the sealant from wearing off, which we shall discuss in this blog. So, stay tuned till the end.

1. Clear the counters
Start by taking everything off the counter. Move any appliances, or crockeries to another surface, such as the kitchen table or cooktop. Once the countertops are clear of bulky things, sweep away any debris with a dry sponge.

2. Use mild cleanser
Warm water and mild dish soap are all you need. Avoid using vinegar because it might dull the granite and degrade the sealant—though there are plenty of other ways to utilize vinegar around the house.
Use a moderate cleaning solution. A soft cleanser will not harm the stone and prevent the sealer on the granite countertop from eroding. We recommend using a mild cleanser (check its ingredients to verify it does not include citric acid, bleach, or ammonia) or warm water with a tiny bit of Castile or dish soap.

3. Then use warm water and a few drops of dish soap to clean.
Apply a small amount of soap on the countertop or your cloth. Wipe it down once to clean its surface. To avoid spreading food, filth, and oil, wring your towel regularly into the fresh water. When you are through with the soap, rinse your cloth and wash the counter with clean water to eliminate any soap residue.

4. Lastly, dry the countertop
Dry the countertop with a clean microfiber towel to avoid wet marks.

Bonus Tip
Always consider using a granite countertop cleaner.
This cleaner is readily available in the cleaning section of your local grocery store. It’s not required to use special cleaners—warm water and soap will suffice—but it’s an option if you want to.
